"I can connect a lapel microphone receiver directly to an amplifier or should I use a mixer?

It is basically a set weekly by our principal to talk with the choir during the test of what fewer steps (and carry off the team), the better.

A mixer is not necessary, all itself. There are other reasons that might be needed. There are two types of amplifier inputs, line level and the micro level. Some amplifiers can only be line level, so you need a pre-amplifier (containing mixers) before connecting to the amplifier. If your amplifier has a microphone input, then 're ready to go. The other reason for using a mixer is for multiple entries to an amplifier in which some or all are used simultaneously, so you can set the relative levels of each input. For example, if you want soft background music while you are speaking, you can decrease the volume of music that is not drown, without lowering the microphone, too. Oops, my bad. You said a lav mic RECEIVER, indicating that it is wireless. wireless microphone receivers must have an output switch for high or low level (mic or line) out. Even if your amplifier does not have a microphone input, you can still change the receiver output level dial and connect directly to the amplifier.
