How I can connect my laptop to the large (type DJ) speakers?

I offer music for a few dance-type events, and I wondered what is the best way would be to connect my dell laptop to a pair of good speakers. I moved in a limited, otherwise I would buy a good set DJ equipment. Is there anything I need to connect my laptop, which then connects to the speakers? I just need a professional opinion I guess. The simplest and most cost effective way would be to use a 3.5mm to RCA Y-cable connected to the headphone output of your laptop In a mixer or directly to the amplifier or amplified speakers.
