What kind of DJ equipment as a beginner should get?
I'm starting to get more and more interested in DJ-ing and want to invest some equipment to help me get started. I wonder if I should go with the classics and get a vinyl turntable or a CD player gettin, or even go with a team dj set. What equipment do I get just for starters, and to save money if you decide its not for me?
If you can scrape the money together, I went with a CDJ400s pair and a mixer DJM400, this is the last bedroom DJ set up and is everything you need to practice and have a load of fun. It worries me a CDJ800s are the obsolete and not worth the money and mk3 CDJ1000s are only necessary if a club. I just got the set-up we mentioned earlier and have not been as long as DJ. Before that my current configuration was practicing in a numark CDMIX1, which is a good cheap way to start if you are not 100% sure that we keep it, but soon exceed it if you practice regularly. One of the good things is that BPM counters are useless so it forces you to learn to match by ear, which is great for learning. There are also computer programs available free for Mac and Windows. I used the demo on my macbook DJ1800 while I was learning, just for fun and is very useful, however, short after 30 minutes of use. There are tons of similar products available, most of which have limitations if you give the demonstration without compromise. not spend money on DJ software yet, it's much easier and fun to learn with CD players, so take a look at the demos available but do not buy anything. If you decide to get some software later departure for one of the best programs such as Pioneer DJS or Traktor, which can be used in conjunction with your CD covers. I'm probably going to receive a stream of thumbs down for vinyl lovers to say this, but not DJ with vinyl. It is a departure, 80% of clubs which will have far only CD covers, so a vinyl DJ is not much. Even the clubs that have turntables will CDJs too, never really going to have to use vinyl. The records are also much more difficult to find the CD – you can download anything you want from internet and burn directly to a CD, which saves large amounts of time and money. I went to two different parts of the Mediterranean islands during the summer, and saw a plate all the time I was there, and only CDJ1000s DVJ1000s, which says a lot – If pro is not doing so why fans? In conclusion, get a Numark CDMIX1 or something similar, perhaps even a second hand, and use that for a while. If you like and definitely want to continue, and save up to achieve something better (I recommend the combo I mentioned CDJ400/DJM400 Pioneer before). This is not to say you should never use vinyl, only that you should learn about CDJs first, then move the vinyl if you have an interest in it. PS. Do not forget to headphones and a cheap set of speakers. You can update these when exceeding well.
