Mounted on the roof rack: fork mount or mountain bike?
I've been using a strap-on trunk mounted bike rack on my car, but not exactly inspire confidence in my beloved bike will not fall off at highway speeds. I'm starting to see mounted on the roof racks and see that there are basically two types: the type that hold the fork and require you to remove the front wheel, and the kind that lets you leave the front wheel. Which is better? Obviously, the holder mounts require more work, so it must have some other advantage? Is there a problem with the all-bike mount that makes me regret that choice? The bicycle is a 2007 Trek Pilot 5.0 all carbon road bike, and the car is a BMW 528i sedan 2000 informatation if it makes a difference in their responses. Thank you.
Without thinking … a fork mounted rack is essential for the type of bike you have. Do you clamp a vice around the central tube of your bike.
