What top DJs need to get started?
This may sound totally strange, but I'm in the whole scene DJ, but do not know anything about it, What equipment is needed, techniques, tips, etc and was just wondering what all you have to get to start working on it. And if someone has any advice, please feel free to offer. = D
OK, first, to get this started, most of the radio DJ not go to college for it. Most of the work as interns starting up stations in small markets. Now that that's out of the way, let me give you some advice Fast. If you end up with more questions, feel free to ask. This is the last question I'm answering today, so it may not be as detailed as you needed. (1) You work as a DJ is mixing together the two (or more) pieces of music to match in 2 ways: The rate or speed, must match, but his time must also match. This means that the two songs not only need to be playing the exact same speed, but needs to play in the same exact time as well. You will use the control of the tempo of your turntable or cd player to match the speed, and use your hands to match the time on the turntables. With players CD uses buttons or jog wheels to match time. (2) You need 2 CD players, turntables and a mixer and headphones. Covers are for listening to music, and the mixer is to control what comes out of the speakers. As a song is playing on the speakers you are listening to others in your headphones. You need to listen to both at the same time, in order to match the speed and time, so they play in perfect sync before submitting second song on the speakers. These are the absolute basics. For advice on specific equipment or techniques, ask another question. I am happy to answer all I can. Also, I'm soon going to launch a series of videos for beginning DJ. Stay tuned!
